2007

Baylor College of Medicine – Rachelle S. Doody, M.D., Ph.D.*
            Dr. Doody is the Effie Marie Cain Chair in Alzheimer’s Disease Research, and Professor of Neurology in the Department of Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. She received a Ph.D. in Cognitive Anthropology from Rice University where she studied the brain and language.  She earned a M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine, and completed her internship and residency training there and at the Royal Victoria Hospital and Montreal Neurologic Institute in Montreal.  She has authored more than 100 publications, most of which deal with the diagnosis, progression, or treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.  She has received multiple research grants, including a Zenith Award from the National Alzheimer’s Association.  Her research interests include studies to model the progression of Alzheimer’s and research and development of new Alzheimer’s medications.

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center – Randolph B. Schiffer, M.D.*
            Dr. Schiffer is the Vernon and Elizabeth Haggerton Chair in Neurology; and Chair, Department of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Science, at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock.  He is the founding Co-Chair of the American Neuropsychiatric Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.  He has authored 100-plus publications in fields of medicine, psychiatry, and neurology.

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center – Roger N. Rosenberg, M.D.
            Dr. Rosenberg is Professor of Neurology and Director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Center at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.  He is among the world’s experts in neurology, and holds the Abe (“Brunky”), Morris, and William Zale Distinguished Chair in Neurology.  He is also director of the Josephine Rudman Laboratory for Alzheimer’s Disease Research.  Dr. Rosenberg is currently researching a gene vaccine against the amyloid protein found in the brains of people with Alzheimer’s disease.  UT Southwestern Medical Center recently has undertaken two new projects: studying the genetics underlying Alzheimer’s disease,  and testing whether cardiovascular risk factors, such as hypertension, can increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s.

University of North Texas Health Science Center – Janice A. Knebl, D.O., MBA
Dr. Knebl is Dallas Southwest Osteopathic Physicians Endowed Chair in Clinical Geriatrics, Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Geriatric in the Department of Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center/Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at Fort Worth.  Dr. Knebl completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA, and a two-year geriatrics fellowship at the Philadelphia Geriatrics Center/Medical College of Pennsylvania.  She is CoMedical Director of the James L. West Dementia Special Care Center and Medical Director of the Broadway Plaza Assisted Living facilities in north Texas that have specialized dementia units.  She has been involved clinical pharmaceutical trials for dementia medications.

Texas Alzheimer’s Research Consortium – James W. Hinds, MPA*, Stephen Waring, DVM, PhD
            Jim Hinds is Project Coordinator for the Consortium, which is funded by the Texas Council on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders.  He is Past Chairman of this Council and Past Board Chair of the Capital of Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. 

           
Stephen Waring is the Research Epidemiologist and Lead Scientist for the Texas Alzheimer's Research Consortium. He is Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Texas  School of Public Health in Houston, where he earned his doctorate in Epidemiology.  He  also received a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University.  Dr. Waring has been involved in Alzheimer’s disease/ dementia research for more than 16 years, and has written numerous scientist publications resulting from his research while affiliated with the Mayo Alzheimer’s Disease Center in Rochester, MN, and through his current affiliation with the Baylor Alzheimer’s and Memory Disorders Center in Houston.
